Nominees for the 2014 Eat Out Awards

Eat Out AwardsHere are the 20 nominees for the Eat Out Top 10 to be announced at the awards ceremony on the 16th of November. So basically this is the top 20.

7 of last year’s top 10 are in the list (I’ve numbered them for you), the 3 that are missing are not eligible for the top 10 because they have recently changed chef:

  • Hartford House – Jackie Cameron has left to start her own cooking school
  • Camphors at Vergelegen – PJ Vadas has left, I believe he is getting involved in a micro brewery / restaurant somewhere
  • Pierneef at La Motte – Chris Erasmus left and opened Foliage in Franschhoek

Those marked with an asterisk were nominated last year as well. Which means the newcomers to the top 20 are:

  • La Mouette – Our favourite in Sea Point, so glad to see them getting recognition
  • Restaurant Mosaic – Has previously been a top 10 restaurant, and also been nominated many times
  • Terroir – previous top 10 restaurant with many nominations. We were surprised that Terroir was not nominated last year
  • The Pot Luck Club – It was just a matter of time! Also won Style Award last year
  • The Restaurant at Newton Johnson – New project with chef Eric Bulpitt (ex Jardine and Roundhouse) running the show
  • The White Room at Dear Me – Chef Vanessa Marx won the rising star award last year

Nominees from last year that are not on the list are:

  • La Colombe (closed while they move from Constantia Uitsig to their new location)
  • Delaire Graff Estate restaurant
  • Indochine at Delaire Graff

Delaire Graff also lost a chef and therefore is not eligible for Top 10 this year.
