Col’Cacchio Celebrity Chef Series 2011

Col’Cacchio are running their Celebrity Chef Series from May to August this year. Each month, they will feature a pizza designed by a well known South African chef and for every one of those pizzas sold, R5 goes to a worthy cause.

Last year the Red Cross Children’s hospital burns unit received over R150 000. This year the cause is the Sustainable Communities Programme run by the Wildlands Conservation Trust.

What many people don’t realise is that the most popular of the pizzas also gets a place on the Col’Cacchio menu going forward. In fact I still order last year’s one (Nacho Libre by David Higgs of Rust en Vrede).

The Chefs this year are:

Bertus Basson (Overture) – Jou Ma Se Curry Pizza (Cape Malay chicken strips, red chilli, feta, green yoghurt drizzle & crushed poppadoms)
Justin Bonello (Celebrity cook) – Green genie (wholewheat base, parmesan, roasted garlic, beetroot, butternut, sautéed shitake mushrooms, Danish feta & rocket – yes, it’s vegetarian)
Marthinus Ferreira (DW Eleven-13) – Prawn Starr (prawns coated in chilli, garlic, fresh lemon with roasted cherry tomatoes & fresh basil leaves)
Neil Jewell (Bread & Wine) – Sticky Fingers (lentil base topped with roastedp pork belly, smoked mozzarella andd tomato marmalade then finished with lime & vanilla pickled cucumber and chilli candy.

Wow, just typing that up had made me hungry. The Series kicks off in May with the curry pizza by Bertus Basson. I’m actually a fan of the Moghul, another curry (butter chicken) pizza which has been on the menu for a while. So I’m looking forward to comparing them.
