Dine Like A Brazilian
With football fever in the air thanks to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, there’s a strong likelihood you’ll be entertaining some guests over the next few weeks. If you can’t make it to Brazil, there’s no reason you can’t bring Brazil home, and what better way to do this than through the kitchen. Below you will find recipes for two simple Brazilian classics. Easy to prepare and even easier to enjoy, they’ll certainly make all the live football action seem even more authentic.
The Bauru is essentially a Brazilian roast beef sandwich with melted mozzarella, tomato and thinly sliced, tangy pickles. It’s a guaranteed hit.
1 crusty Portuguese roll
4 slices deli roast beef
3 slices tomato
6 dill pickle chips
2 thick slices of mozzarella
Heat oven to 180°. Split roll lengthwise and place roast beef, tomato, pickles, and mozzarella on bottom. Cover toppings with top bun and place on a baking sheet. Bake until cheese is melted (Approximately 5 minutes). Serve hot.
This is the national drink of Brazil, so if it’s authenticity you’re after – look no further. A Caipirinha is made with cachaça, an intensely sweet Brazilian style of rum. Always opt for a premium cachaça as the drink is not heavily flavoured and a cheaper brand could ruin the taste.
1 lime (quartered)
2 tsp of brown sugar
60ml of cachaca
Place the lime wedges and sugar into an old-fashioned glass and muddle well. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour in the cachaça and stir well. Enjoy!
As great as these Brazilian dishes are, the real attraction over June and July is the football action.
