Food & wine pairing at Blues review

Blues is hosting food and wine pairing evenings in July and August (see forthcoming dates below). Last night was the second one, I went along to check it out. The evening is a really good deal, 5 courses paired with 5 wines, all for R150. That is very reasonable.
Celebrity chef, Peter Goffe-Wood, is assisting with the menu development and pairing. The dishes change every evening but knowing Peter, they will always be interesting. We started with Parma Ham on Radicchio and Polenta Bruschetta. Then came Grilled Monkfish with Salsa Verde and Deep Fried Zucchini with Anchovy and Rosemary Dip.
We then had an antipasto of either Lamb Shank Agnoli or Basil, Ricotta and Sundried Ravioli. The main was a choice between Kudu Loin, Gnocchi or Baked Kingklip. Dessert was Amaretto flavoured Tiramisu.
Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, my Kudu was too tough but on the whole the food was good. The paired wines were from Waterford, which makes excellent wines. I found some of the pairings to be a bit unusual but I’m no expert so don’t pay too much attention to me on that. I wouldn’t say that everything was perfect, but at R150, it’s good value for money.
The next two pairing evenings will be on 1st August (Haskell Vineyards) and 15th August (Napier Winery).
